I leave for New Orleans in January and will be away from my home for four months. It's a fraction of the time my friends who are already working on the show have been there. I'm wondering if I'll even find work in Los Angeles at all in 2015 because I'm only hearing about shows in Vancouver or New Mexico or films in Atlanta.
There are things about being away that I love. There's a freedom and ability to structure my non-working time to increase my workouts and writing time, but I end up feeling like I'm not living my life. I feel like I'm waiting to get back to it. It's strange when you work for something and want it for so long only to find it doesn't make you happy. I'll keep you posted in the New Year as to whether I'm losing my mind or finding new joy in the adventures of entertainment production. It's a toss-up so far. In the meantime, I'd love to hear from others who have to deal with a lot of travel in their careers. Give me a shout out in the comments and tell me how you deal with being away from home.
